StratusLab Project Roadmap

StratusLab v1.0 distribution (due May 2011) will include the features needed to deploy virtualized Grid services in a Grid site. We expect to have a feature-freeze release at the end of February 2011. The following roadmap highlights the functionality gaps identified in the current release of the StratusLab toolkit & services; and will guide the sprint planning meetings.

  • Support for grid-proxy authentication. This will be also used by the public Cloud interfaces
  • Better protection of regular user passwords
• Monitoring & Accounting
  • Ganglia integration for monitoring both physical and virtual infrastructures
  • Collection of metrics and generation of accounting reports
• User Management
  • Improved management of user quotas
  • Group/role based authorization
• Virtual Machine Manager
  • Improved fault tolerance
  • Improved contextualization and management of images
  • Improved management of virtual networks
• Storage
  • Management of persistent storage areas à la EBS
  • Appliance Repository
  • Split in the service in registry and store components
  • Build of StratusLab-ready Grid-appliances
• Service Manager
  • Complete integration in the release
  • Installation and configuration using Quattor
  • Deployment of Grid-appliances from Claudia
  • Integration with monitoring information from OpenNebula
• Cloud Interfaces
  • Based on Amazon EC2 or OCCI standard for computing

• Reference Cloud Service
  • Follow the evolution of StratusLab releases and provide all new services developed.
  • Expand physical resources in order to satisfy the increasing demand from external users.
  • Deploy at least one more production-level cloud site
  • Federate resources of reference cloud sites
• Grid Services
  • Enable grid site elasticity exploiting the capabilities of the Service Manager (Claudia)
  • Expand virtual resources of the production site (HG-07-StratusLab).
  • Provide support for larger number of VOs from different application domains
