Wrap Up for StratusLab at the EGI User Forum

V. Floros and C. Loomis gave presentations at the EGI User Forum 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania describing the operation of grid services over a StratusLab cloud and outlining possible collaborations with other FP7 projects, respectively. Both talks were well received and spurred numerous questions from the audience.

To meet the goals of the project, the StratusLab consortium must collaborate with the other DCI projects. This collaboration has been going on informally since the start of the project; however, the DCI projects are now starting for formalize these collaborations through Memoranda of Understanding (MoU). StratusLab signed its first two MoUs with EGI and EDGI during the event.

StratusLab gave a user tutorial at the EGI UF that was attended by 54 people. More chairs had to be brought into the room to accomodate everyone! Some were attending just to have more details about the StratusLab software and just listened to the presentations. However, 24 people managed to install the StratusLab client, launch and control virtual machines on the project's reference infrastructure, and upload metadata descriptions of machine images to the StratusLab Marketplace–all in just 1.5 hours.

To cap off the week, StratusLab was awarded the Best Demo award for our exhibition at the event. We hope to build on this and have an even more successful trip to the upcoming EGI technical forum in Lyon.
